Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park
Discover the wild beauty of Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s hidden gems, famous for its landscapes, ancient baobab trees, and large elephant herds. This stunning park offers a quieter, more exclusive safari experience compared to the northern circuit’s busier destinations.
Tarangire is renowned for hosting one of the highest concentrations of elephants in Africa, often seen gathering along the life-giving Tarangire River. During the dry season, the park becomes a wildlife haven, attracting zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, buffalo, and predators such as lions and leopards.
Bird lovers will also find paradise here, with over 500 bird species recorded, making it one of the best birding destinations in Tanzania.
Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit Tarangire National Park is during the dry season from June to October, when wildlife congregates around the river, making game viewing exceptional. The green season (November to May) offers lush scenery and excellent birdwatching, though wildlife is more dispersed.
How to Get There:
Tarangire National Park is located about 2–3 hours by road from Arusha, making it an easy start to a northern safari circuit. Travelers can arrive via Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, then continue by road with a safari vehicle. Charter flights are also available to nearby airstrips for a more convenient and scenic journey.
